- General Provisions
1.1. This Procedure determines the procedure for the withdrawal (retraction) of scientific articles published in the annual collection of scientific works “Ukrainian Art Studies: Materials, Investigations, Reviews” (hereinafter referred to as the collection).
1.2. The Procedure is a component of the system for ensuring academic integrity and publication ethics of the collection and is applied in conjunction with the Procedure for considering complaints regarding violations of academic integrity and publication ethics.
1.3. Retraction is carried out for the purpose of:
- correcting the scientific record;
- informing the scientific community about unreliable results;
- preventing the use of incorrect data.
1.4. The procedure complies with the recommendations of the international standards of publication ethics (COPE).
- Grounds for retraction
2.1. Retraction is applied in case of confirmation of significant violations, in particular:
- plagiarism or self-plagiarism;
- fabrication or falsification of results;
- duplication of publication;
- significant errors that distort the results of the study;
- incorrect authorship;
- violation of copyright;
- undeclared conflict of interest;
- other violations of publication ethics.
2.2. Retraction may be initiated:
- as a result of consideration of a complaint (in accordance with the current Procedure);
- at the request of the author(s);
- by decision of the editorial board;
- based on the conclusions of institutions or expert bodies.
- Initiation and consideration of the issue of retraction
3.1. Consideration of the issue of retraction is carried out within the framework of the procedure for considering complaints or separately, if the initiator is the editorial office or the author.
3.2. The stages of consideration include:
- preliminary verification of facts;
- analysis of materials and evidence;
- obtaining explanations from the author(s);
- if necessary, involving experts.
3.3. The terms of consideration correspond to the terms specified in the Procedure for Considering Complaints (up to 30–60 days).
3.4. If necessary, the editorial office interacts with the Commission on Academic Integrity of the M. T. Rylskyi Institute of Art Studies, Folkloristics and Ethnology of the NAS of Ukraine.
- Decision-making
4.1. Based on the results of the review, the editorial board may decide:
- not to apply a retraction;
- to publish a correction;
- to publish an expression of concern;
- to carry out a full or partial retraction of the article.
4.2. The decision is made collectively and is documented in a protocol.
4.3. When making a decision, the following are taken into account:
- the nature of the violation;
- its impact on the results of the study;
- the presence of intent (if it can be established);
- the explanation of the author(s).
- Registration of retraction
5.1. In the event of a decision to retraction:
- an official notice of retraction is published;
- the electronic version of the article is marked as “Withdrawn”;
- the article is not removed from the archive, but is clearly identified as invalid.
5.2. The notice of retraction contains:
- title of the article;
- authors;
- bibliographic data;
- date of retraction;
- grounds for retraction (in a correct and legally balanced form);
- the body that made the decision.
5.3. If indexing is available, the information is transferred to scientometric databases.
- Notification of the parties
6.1. The author(s) shall be notified of the decision before its publication.
6.2. The applicant (if any) shall be informed of the outcome of the review.
6.3. The institution with which the author is affiliated may be notified in the event of significant violations.
- Appeal of the decision
7.1. The author(s) have the right to file an appeal within 14 calendar days.
7.2. The appeal shall be considered in accordance with the procedure established for the consideration of complaints.
7.3. The decision on the appeal shall be final.
- Final provisions
8.1. The Procedure is an open document and is published on the collection website.
8.2. All issues not regulated by this Procedure are resolved in accordance with:
- COPE recommendations;
- internal documents of the M. T. Rylskyi Institute of Art Studies, Folkloristics and Ethnology of the NAS of Ukraine;
- current legislation of Ukraine.
